Description

A Handsome Copy of Steinbeck's Masterpiece

John Steinbeck. The Grapes of Wrath. New York: The Viking Press, [1939]. First edition. Octavo. [vi], 619, [3, blank] pages. Publisher's full brown buckram, decoratively stamped in dark brown in a wraparound design, dust jacket. Jacket spine a bit toned and rubbed, some rubbing and very minor wear to jacket extremities, some offset on jacket verso from the design on the binding, some very light soiling on rear joint of binding (very common for this title). A fine copy of this title, increasingly difficult to find in this condition. Housed in custom quarter blue morocco clamshell case.

    More Information:

This book, perhaps more than any other, movingly illustrated the plight of the dispossessed during the Great Depression. Grapes of Wrath received the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize, and was one of the primary works cited when Steinbeck won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962. Steinbeck scholar John Timmerman summed up the book's impact: "The Grapes of Wrath may well be the most thoroughly discussed novel - in criticism, reviews, and college classrooms - of twentieth century American Literature."

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
