    John Steinbeck. East of Eden. New York: The Viking Press, 1952. First edition, limited issue, limited to 1500 unnumbered copies and signed by the author. Octavo (9.875 x 6 inches; 226 x 152 mm.). [vi], 602 page; limitation leaf inserted at front. Publisher's green cloth, spine and front board lettered in gilt, spine stamped in brownish-red and ruled in gilt; all edges stained light red. Spine slightly leaning; small patch of faint brownish discoloration to the backstrip; trivial wear to the extremities. Tape residue to both front and rear endpapers (one (front) or two (rear) strips, centrally located, about three and one-half inches at the longest); some light soiling; rear hinge strengthened by gluing the inner margin of the final leaf to the rear endpaper (possibly as issued). Near fine, housed in a custom slipcase, lacking the original. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.
