    Description

John P. Marquand. The Late George Apley. Boston: 1937. First edition, first printing.

    More Information:

John P. Marquand. The Late George Apley. Boston: Little, Brown, and Company, 1937. First edition, first printing, with "Lovely Pearl" at the top of page 19. Octavo. vi, [1]-354 pages. Publisher's full blue cloth, front board and spine ruled and lettered in gilt, dust jacket. Cloth spine slightly sunned, some light rubbing, and a few small spots of soiling to binding, small ownership signature and gift inscription on both sides of the front free endpaper. The text has the vertical oil marks found in virtually every copy of this title (there was a problem with the press, and this title and at least one C. S. Forester title were affected). Jacket spine a bit toned, some mild rubbing, some thumbsoiling or foxing, and a few short chips at jacket flaps, and a small tear to the jacket on the rear panel. Still, a near fine copy of this 1938 Pulitzer Prize winner.
