John [Jack] Kerouac. The Town and the City. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, [1950]. First edition, signed by the author, as John, on the front free endpaper. Octavo (8.0625 x 5.5 inches; 205 x 140 mm.). [2, blank], [vi], 499, [5, blank] pages. Publisher's red cloth, spine and front board lettered and ruled in gilt; in original dust jacket. Spine just barely askew; backstrip slightly dulled with seven tiny, faint splashes near the bottom edge; spine ends pushed with a touch of wear; boards bottom edge and corners lightly worn; corners slightly bent. Text block sagging just a hair; rear endpaper with an old rubber stamp in the upper corner, slightly offset to the pastedown; endpapers very faintly discolored; fore-edge of leaves with pages 229-232 roughly trimmed. Dust jacket edges worn with chipping to the fold edges and some closed tears; joints somewhat worn with an occasional minor interior closed tear; five tape repairs on the verso (two along the rear spine fold, one at the bottom of the front panel, one along the foot of the spine and one at the bottom of the rear flap fold extending slightly into the rear panel); spine panel faintly dulled; flap folds lightly discolored. Still, very good. Kerouac's first book.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
