    John Dos Passos. Three Soldiers. New York: George H. Doran Company, [1921]. First edition of Dos Passos' first novel, inscribed by Dos Passos to a friend and fellow author A. Hamilton Gibbs on the second blank: "For A. Hamilton Gibbs/Who had so much/to do with getting people/to read this/John Dos Passos". The text is in the second state with the corrected text on page 213. Octavo. 433 pages. Publisher's full black cloth, front board and spine stamped in orange. In the original third state dust jacket. Jacket spine toned, some edgewear, mild chipping and a few tears to jacket, cloth spine a bit sunned, some rubbing and minor soiling to binding, some foxing to endleaves. Still, a near fine copy. Housed in chemise and slipcase. From the collection of Donald Kaufmann.

    Both Dos Passos and Gibbs were successful authors who shared antipathy towards war, based on similar experiences in World War I.
