Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. Auntie Mame. New York: [1957]. First edition, inscribed by Lawrence and signed by members of the cast and crew.

More Information: Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. [Cast-Signed Book]. Auntie Mame . Based on the Novel by Patrcik Dennis. New York: Vanguard Press, [1957]. First edition, inscribed by Jerome Lawrence on the first preliminary blank: "To Mark -- / our wonderful / Uncle Bean. / Warmest / Jerome Lawrence." Additionally signed by Robert E. Lee, Patrick Dennis who wrote the original novel, producer Richard Barr, actress Constance Bennett and two others. Octavo (7.9375 x 5.25 inches; 201 x 135 mm.). [4, blank], 182 [vi, blank] pages (note: pages numbered only on the versos); half-title and title leaves as well as two act headings on inserted leaves, photographically illustrated. Publisher's black quarter-cloth, spine lettered in silver, over white paper-covered boards with blue speckles and the title printed in red; all edges of the text block trimmed; photographically illustrated endpapers; in the original dust jacket. Backstrip faintly dulled; spine ends slightly pushed with some light wear, including a couple tiny tears to the cloth; boards browned, particularly around the edges; edges lightly rubbed with a touch of wear at the corners. Text block very slightly sagging; page edges very lightly tanned with a couple minor scuffs and fox marks. Dust jacket rubbed; spine panel faded with an adhesive label affixed toward the bottom edge, partially obscuring the publisher's imprint; edges and folds lightly worn with some nicks and wrinkling to the crown. Very good. Rosalind Russell played the title character for much of the play's initial Broadway run, from October 1956 to June 1958, to much acclaim, but Constance Bennett took over leading duties for the road company for some locations including Cleveland and Boston (Richard Tyler Jordan. But Darling, I'm Your Auntie Mame! New York: 2004. pp. 68-69). Presumably inscribed to a member of the cast or crew on a road performance.
