Octavo (8.5 x 5.5 inches; 216 x 140 mm.). [viii], 326, [2, blank] pages. Publisher's brown cloth, spine stamped in blue. Original dust jacket trimmed just slightly shorted than the boards. Cloth spine toned; binding somewhat worn with a few bumps and related short tears; covers lightly soiled. Endpapers lightly soiled; text quite toned but still supple; recipient's bookplate on front pastedown. Dust jacket lightly soiled; edges somewhat worn with a few tears and mild chips; spine panel faintly dulled. Still, about very good. The author's first novel, winner of the 1948 the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and basis of the musical, South Pacific, by Rogers and Hammerstein. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.
