    Description

    J. D. Salinger. The Catcher in the Rye. Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1951. First edition. Octavo (7.75 x 5.25 inches; 195 x 135 mm.). [6], 277, [1, blank] pages. Publisher's black cloth, spine lettered in gilt; all edges trimmed; in the original first-issue illustrated dust jacket, with the $ in the price situated over the final R on front flap and the top of Salinger's head slightly cut out of the frame. Minor shelf wear at extremities of binding; spine ends barely pushed. Some darkening to edges of text block; speckles of foxing to edges and endpapers; areas of spot-soiling scattered throughout interior of text block; unsigned bookplate tipped to front pastedown. Slight musty smell. Some soft creasing to edges and folds of jacket; light wear at spine and flap fold ends with a few tiny spots of paper loss; surface of paper torn up at a small area at top of author portrait; mild toning recto and verso. Very good overall.
