All of the First American Editions of Ian Fleming's James Bond Novels

Ian Fleming. Complete Collection of First American Editions of the James Bond Novels. New York: Macmillan, Viking Press, New American Library, 1954-1966. First American editions. Titles include: Casino Royale; Live and Let Die; Moonraker; Diamonds Are Forever; From Russia, with Love; Doctor No; Goldfinger; For Your Eyes Only; Thunderball; The Spy Who Loved Me; On Her Majesty's Secret Service; You Only Live Twice; The Man with the Golden Gun; Octopussy. Together, fourteen octavo volumes. All in publisher's bindings in dust jackets. Condition as follows: Casino Royale has a small hole and scuff mark on the front of the dust jacket, and jacket is lightly soiled and worn; Live and Let Die has a tear to the front of the jacket, and the jacket spine is sunned and chipped; Moonraker has tape on the verso of the jacket, and the spine of the jacket is chipped and somewhat worn, bookplate; Diamonds Are Forever has tape reinforcements to the jacket verso and a small tear to the rear panel, jacket a bit soiled; From Russia with Love has a price-clipped dust jacket, and has one tape repair to verso, front free endpaper lacking, but this appears to be a binding error, rather than damage (upon close examination, the stub of the front free endpaper goes under the first signature and appears to be neatly clipped); Doctor No has light wear to the spine of the jacket and some rubbing to jacket; Goldfinger spine of jacket a bit browned, and headcap of jacket and book are somewhat bumped; For Your Eyes Only has tape on the headcap of the jacket, and two small tears to the jacket, some rubbing; Thunderball jacket spine somewhat sunned and worn, cloth spine browned; The Spy Who Loved Me has a small tape repair to the front and rear of the jacket at the bottom of the front panel; On Her Majesty's Secret Service has slight rubbing to jacket; You Only Live Twice jacket spine is sunned and rubbed; The Man with the Golden Gun has one small chip to the rear of the jacket, and the jacket flaps are creased with a small portion of the lower corner of the front flap missing; Octopussy has one small tear and some minor scuffing to jacket, with bookplate. Overall, a very good set of the American versions of the James Bond novels.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
