Inscribed by Hunter S. Thompson, with Signed Wedding Invitation

Hunter S. Thompson. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream. New York: Popular Library, [1971].

Mass market paperback. Inscribed by the author with a doodle; also with a signed wedding invitation. 208 pages. Illustrated by Ralph Steadman.

Publisher's illustrated wrappers, with publisher's yellow stain to all edges. Covers show typical used wear. Rubbing and creasing to edges with minor chipping. Two small puncture holes at head of front panel. Tear to top of rear cover measuring one-and-one-half inches, repaired with transparent tape. Spine bowed at head. Well-thumbed, but text clean. Wedding invitation taped into book, facing Thompson's inscription. Overall, a very good copy.

If you happen to be carrying both your impending wedding invitation and a paperback of "the best book on the dope decade," why not have the good doctor sign them both and then secure the invite across from his heartfelt congratulations? Looking forward to their special day, Thompson provides a cheeky factoid as his inscription: "Marriage will put you in the same league with Arnold Schwartznegger [sic] and George Bush. Congratulations, HST." To further confuse matters, his doodle of the iconic heart shape below has grown something rather malignant inside.
