    Ernest Hemingway. The Old Man and the Sea. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1952. First edition, in the first state dust jacket with image on rear panel tinted in blue. Possible pre-publication copy, with "Aug 22 1952/N" stamped on the rear jacket flap at the bottom (nearly two weeks before actual publication - see below). Octavo. 140 pages. Publisher's light blue cloth with blindstamped front cover titles and silver spine titles. Jacket spine a bit toned, some light rubbing to jacket, some rubbing and very mild foxing to binding. Still, a fine copy.
    This book was published by Scribner's on September 8, 1952, a week after it had appeared in Life Magazine on September 1, 1952.
