Description

First Edition, First Printing in the First Issue Dust Jacket

Ernest Hemingway. A Farewell To Arms. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1929. First trade edition, first printing, without the legal disclaimer on page [x]. Octavo. 355 pages. Publisher's smooth black cloth with gold paper labels, lettered and ruled in black. Top and bottom edges trimmed; fore-edge untrimmed. In the first issue dust jacket, with the "Katharine Barclay" misspelling on the front inner flap. Minor wear to the edges and corners. Some whitish soiling and rubbing to boards. Light rubbing to spine label. Light foxing to text edges, endpapers, and first & last few leaves. Minor rubbing to jacket, especially along the spine. Noticeable dust-soiling, mainly to the panels and spine. Small fingernail-sized stain to bottom edge of rear jacket panel. Very minor chips to the fold ends. Spine head lightly tattered, with two short closed tears, not touching any text. Overall, a bright copy in an unrestored example of the scarce first issue dust jacket, better than typically offered. Hanneman 8A.
