Edith Wharton. The Fruit of the Tree. New York: 1907. First edition.

    More Information:

Edith Wharton. The Fruit of the Tree. New York: Scribner's, 1907. First edition. In a rare early dust jacket. Octavo. 633 pages. Publisher's (presumed) remainder or variant binding of full red cloth, front board and spine lettered in white (the first issue has gilt-stamping), dust jacket (ca. 1909, with titles corresponding to that year). Jacket chipped, worn, and torn, with tape repairs and restoration to jacket (repairs on the recto of the jacket), some rubbing to binding, some loss of white stamping on spine, this copy apparently bound without illustrations on pages 82 and 130 and the tissue-guard on the frontispiece (no evidence of removal). Bookplate. Still, a very good copy in a very rare dust jacket (Garrison's dust jacket was also a later jacket, but his was printed in red, instead of the olive green of this one). From the collection of Donald Kaufmann.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
