The first illustrated edition of Ulysses, number 6 of 1,500 numbered copies signed by the artist, Henri Matisse. Quarto. [xvi], [2], 363, [1, blank], [2, limitation leaf], [4, blank] pages. Twenty-six plates, consisting of six soft-ground etchings, printed by hand, and twenty lithographic drawings, made as studies for the etchings, printed on thin colored papers. Original brown buckram embossed in gold on front cover and spine from a design by LeRoy H. Appleton. Top edge sprinkled brown, others uncut. No slipcase. Spine gilt faded. Minor white soiling to the boards. Light bumping and rubbing to corners. Hinges partially split, but reinforced with archival tape. Small marginal stain to page 345. A very good copy.
