    Laws of the Republic of Texas, In Two Volumes, Volume II Bound With Laws of the Republic of Texas, Passed the First Session of Third Congress, 1839 [and] Laws of the Republic of Texas, Passed at the Session of the Fourth Congress in One Volume [1840]. Houston: "Printed at the Office of the Telegraph", Intelligencer Officer and Telegraph Power Press, respectively, 1838, 1839 and 1840. All three parts bound together in one 8vo volume. 122, v; 167, v; 126 pp. Rebound in modern light brown cloth library binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Occasional light to moderate foxing with some scattered minor damp staining and toning to the edges of the pages at the back. Old taped repairs to pages 120 through 126 of the last volume section with a 4" x .5" diagonal area of loss at the top center of pages 124, 125, and 126. "Garvis & Ward/ Austin" is hand-written on the title pages of volume, presumably a law partnership in Austin of the period. Former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. Generally very good in a hardly worn modern binding.

    The laws of the Republic of Texas with acts and resolutions on a myriad of topics, including such diverse matters as: attorney fees, locating a permanent seat of government, an act to provide for the punishment of horse thieves, resolutions authorizing trade with Mexicans, the employment of friendly Indians, an act to incorporate the city of Houston, and hundreds of other important and fascinating acts and resolutions relative to early Texas history.
