    Laws of the Republic of Texas, In Two Volumes. Houston: "Printed at the Office of the Telegraph," 1838. First edition. 8vo. 398pp. plus Indices. Contemporary full-calf binding with raised bands and gilt lettering on spine. Occasional light to moderate age toning; dampstaining pp. 45-68, pp. 103-125, and pp. 218 through the end of Volume I. Former owner's signature on Volume 1 title page. Minor rubbing to corners, edges, and spine ends. Spine is moderately faded. Generally very good.

    Both the first and second editions of this work begin with a printing of the Texas Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There follows a complete listing of the Laws of the Republic of Texas with acts and resolutions on a myriad of topics, including such diverse matters as: attorney fees, locating a permanent seat of government, An Act to Provide for the Punishment of Crimes and Misdemeanors Committed by Slaves and Persons of Color, incorporation of various towns, money for the purchase of a house for the president's use, and numerous resolutions providing for the relief of various private citizens.
