Sixteenth Century Leaf From A Gradual

    Large Medieval Manuscript Gradual Leaf on Vellum From the Sanctus of the Mass Ordinary. [n.p. Spain?], [n.d. circa 1590]. Large folio 28.5 x 20.5 inches [570 x 720 mm]. Five line staff in red, text in brown/black ink with red text for the headline. One large Illuminated initial "S" [110 x 95 mm] with gold background and floral decoration in blue, vermillion, green, and pink. Six large initials with pen decoration and two with blue floral decoration. Old repair on verso in inner margin with vellum and side tab in vellum; four small holes in blank right margin, otherwise in excellent condition. The verse is familiar to Catholics and translated from the Latin reads: "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts:
    heaven (& earth) are full of thy glory: Hosanna, in the highest. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Glory to thee, O lord in the highest". From the Krown & Spellman collection.
