    Description

    L. Ron Hubbard. Death's Deputy. Los Angeles: Fantasy Publishing Co., 1948. First edition, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To Frances F[armer?] / with my very best / wishes at a very / pleasant meeting - / L. Ron Hubbard / Nov 48." Small octavo. 167, [1, blank] pages. Publisher's black cloth (Currey's A), spine lettered in gilt; in the original dust jacket. Minor occasional rubbing to cloth, light offsetting to endleaves, text lightly toned. Jacket has one tape repair to verso at spine, spine is a bit sunned, some rubbing and toning to jacket, thumbsoiling to rear panel. Very good. Currey p. 232. A potential association copy if actually inscribed for actress Frances Farmer, who endured a public fall from the spotlight, including admission to an asylum. Hubbard surely would have been aware of her prolonged legal and psychiatric trials, which began in the early 1940s.
