First edition illustrated by Shepard, limited to 200 numbered copies on handmade paper, of which this is number eighty-seven, and signed by the author and the illustrator. Large octavo (8.875 x 7.125 inches; 225 x 182 mm.). [2, blank], [vi], 312 pages; in-text illustrations throughout, folding map and paper label inserted at rear. Publisher's green quarter-cloth over light bluish-gray paper-covered boards; printed paper label affixed to spine; page edges untrimmed; in the original dust jacket. Top edge of text block a little dusty; endpapers with some faint offsetting; previous owner gift inscription on the front free endpaper; a couple page edges roughly opened. Dust jacket spine panel browned, with a short interior tear near the front panel fold and the publisher's device; front and rear panels tanned; folds worn; crown and fold edges lightly chipped with no loss of printed ink; short (about three-quarters of one inch) tear to the upper edge of the rear panel, with corresponding crease; soiled and lightly foxed. A nearly fine copy in a very good dust jacket; housed in a custom clamshell case. From the Collection of James C. Seacrest.
