    Description

Ken Kesey. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. New York: The Viking Press, [1962]. First edition, first state with mention of "that fool Red Cross woman" on page nine; association copy, inscribed by the author for Tom Hardy on the front free endpaper: "For Ol' Hardy: / 'Its the truth / even if it didn't / happen.' / Ken Kesey." Octavo (7.9375 x 5.375 inches; 202 x 137 mm.). [viii], 311, [1, blank] pages. Publisher's green cloth, spine lettered in orangish-yellow; top edge stained orange; in original first-state dust jacket with the Kerouac quote on the front flap. Cloth spine very slightly dull; very minor rubbing to binding. Bookseller's ticket (Portland Book Co.) on rear pastedown. Binding slightly skewed. Dust jacket spine somewhat sunned, as often found; spine edges with some small chipping and several small tears; some edgewear and creasing to jacket panels; a creased tear to the rear jacket panel at bottom; price-clipped. Very good. Tom Hardy was a sculptor and a friend of Kesey's; they attended the University of Oregon together. Laid-in is a postcard of the FDR Memorial (on which Hardy worked) signed by Hardy. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.
