Playfully Inscribed and Signed by the Author and Also Signed by the Illustrator

Kay Thompson. Eloise. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1955. First edition, first printing ("Lily Daché" on page 50). Inscribed and signed by the author and the illustrator on the front endpapers. Thompson writes on the front free endpaper, "For my dear Paul - / from / Eloise herself / and The Author" and Knight adds, "and / Hilary / Knight / in 2007" on the front pastedown. Quarto. 65 pages. With fold-up plate between pages 12 and 16. Illustrated by Hilary Knight. Publisher's cream cloth red and black titles. Original pictorial dust jacket. Minor soiling to the boards. Spine slightly cocked. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown belonging to Paul Caruso, presumably the subject of the inscription. Light dust-soiling to the text and the jacket. A few small chips to the jacket edges and corners, some mildly affecting some text. Larger chip and short split to the spine tail. Horizontal crease to the middle of the jacket. Overall, a very good copy of a title rarely found signed by both of the creators.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
