Translated from the second German edition by M. J. Roy with significant revisions by the author. Quarto. 351, [1, table of contents]. Title page with architectural vignette. Alternate title page with "1re Livraison" and original issue price of "Dix Centimes" printed in lower margin. Portrait. Letter from the author to Maurice Lachâtre in facsimile, with the publisher's response on verso. Text in two columns, engraved head- and tail-pieces. Modern quarter black morocco over marbled boards with matching endpapers. Spine lettered in gilt with five raised bands. Front board very gently splayed, edges lightly worn, some pages faintly browned, occasional foxing throughout, scant small closed tear or faint tidemark. Near fine overall. Einaudi 3770.
