Octavo (7.3125 x 5.375 inches; 188 x 136 mm.). xvi, 315, [1, blank], pages with 48 page publisher's catalog, dated October 1873, inserted at rear; frontispiece and fifty-three illustrated plates inserted throughout. Publisher's blue cloth over boards with beveled edges, spine and front board elaborately stamped in gilt and black, rear board ruled blind and with publisher's device stamped in blind; all edges gilt; light pinkish orange coated endpapers; bound by Burn & Co. with their ticket on the rear pastedown. Spine leaning; backstrip dulled and board edges dulled; rear board lightly soiled; spine ends somewhat worn; joints and edges lightly worn with corners slightly frayed. Hinges starting; text block sagging slightly; contemporary owner gift inscription; occasional minor over-opening; sporadic, faint marginal foxing. Still, a very good unsophisticated copy; housed in a custom clamshell case.
