First fully illustrated American edition (Osgood had published their first edition in the summer of the same year with a single illustration, Verne's sketch of the "Saint Michel". Octavo. xvi, 315 pages, front fly leaf excised, rear fly leaf present. Fifty-four inserted black and white plates, including frontispiece, with illustrations by A. de Neuville and L. Bennett. Integral full-page sketch of the "Saint Michael" ("Saint Michel") by Verne. Brown pictorial cloth, decorated in black and gold, over beveled boards. Light wear at the top and bottom of the spine and at corners. Occasional soiling to the sheets and plates, mostly to the margins. Overall, a very good, bright copy, with the scarce 1873 title page.
