Joseph G. McCoy. Historic Sketches of the Cattle Trade of the West and the Southwest. Kansas City, Mo.: Ramsey, Millett & Hudson, 1874. First edition. Octavo. [i-vi]. [1]-427, [1-24] advertisement pages. Illustrated with many black and white engravings. McCoy was the chief architect of the 19th century cattle drives out of Texas to markets north via the Chisholm and associated trails. Ramon Adams calls this book "one of the 'big four' cattle books, written by a man who opened the market for Texas cattle. This is one of the first and most important books on the cattle trade." The book includes a wealth of information and insight into all levels of the cattle industry. McCoy "gives biographical sketches of early ranchmen, cowboys, drovers, traders, financiers of the trade, and the personnel of the stock yards. He described the cowboy dances, wintering the herds, branding, and all other features of the industry" (Eberstadt).

Condition: Boards worn along the edges with scattered scuffs and spotting; spine ends frayed; front hinge starting; light toning to contents, some signatures out of line, else in very good condition.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
