Joris-Karl Huysmans. Autograph Letter Signed. "JKHuysmans." Four page bifolium in French, 6.25" x 7.75", Paris; August 10, 1883. Addressed to "Mon cher confrerè," an unnamed correspondent, this letter is about Huysmans' book L'art Moderne (1883). Huysmans writes, "Raffaëlli sent me today, from Le Tréport, the issue of Justice where you wrote about Art Moderne." He thanks his recipient for writing about his book in the issue. He thanks him for saying it is a "sincere" book because that was his aim and he appreciates someone pointing it out. He complains about entire passages being removed during editing and explains that this is the reason for some of the book's weaknesses in terms of missing or lackluster content.
Joris-Karl Huysmans (1848-1907) was a French novelist and art critic. He supported himself by a 30-year career in the French civil service.
Condition: Letter is toned, foxed, slightly rubbed, horizontal fold; otherwise very good.
