Description

John Wesley Hardin. The Life of John Wesley Hardin, From the Original Manuscript, As Written By Himself. Seguin: Smith & Moore, 1896. First edition, first issue. Small 8vo. 144pp. Illustrations by R. J. Onderdonk. Printed paper wraps. Covers lightly foxed. One closed tear and a couple of small creases to front cover, and some almost invisible pinholes to back cover. Head of spine very lightly bumped with a small amount of paper loss; minor abrasions to spine edge of front cover. One page carelessly opened. Bookplate to inside of front cover. In a sturdy custom box with inner slipcase. Overall, this is a very good copy of an important Texas title.

Well-written and engrossing autobiography of one of the most notorious Texas outlaws of all time published soon after Hardin was killed in El Paso by John Selman. According to Jenkins, the book was withdrawn from circulation a few days after publication when Hardin's daughters objected, and the books were stored in a San Antonio warehouse which later burned, destroying all of the edition except for 400 copies which found their way into the hands of a local bookseller and were sold off a few at a time. This copy one of the original issue with the mis-identified portrait of Hardin on the Preface page.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
