Publisher's pictorial beige linen, stamped in maroon; original illustrated dust jacket by Elmer Hader. Spine sunned. Illustrated endpapers, toned. Internally clean; top edge stained yellow but somewhat faded, minor text block edgewear and soiling. Dust jacket unclipped ($2.75, "First edition" printed to lower corner of front flap); chipping to head and foot of spine and corners with some losses to head of spine affecting text, spine sunned, somewhat toned. Awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1940. Near fine book with very good dust jacket.
