Inscribed and signed in the year of publication by Steinbeck, "For L. H.(?) Cantor / with greetings / John Steinbeck 1937" on the title page. Small octavo. 186, [6, blank] pages. Publisher's beige cloth, front cover and spine stamped in black and orange. Original later-issue pictorial dust jacket. Housed in a brown half-leather slipcase with marbled boards and cloth chemise. Minor dustsoiling to the boards. Spine a bit sunned. Tape scars and offsetting to front endpapers. Newspaper clippings pasted to the page opposite of the first page of text, all of the rear flyleaves, and the rear endpapers. Front free endpaper removed. Minor wear and light chipping to the jacket edges. Spine sunned. Six strips of tape reinforcement to the verso of the jacket. Very good. Goldstone & Payne A7a.
