    John Milton. Poems of Mr. John Milton, Both English and Latin, Compos'd at several times. London: Ruth Raworth for Humphrey Moseley, 1645. First collected edition of Milton's poems, first state of the title page. Two parts bound into one small octavo volume. Approximately 5.75 x 3.5 inches. [vi], 120, 87, [1, blank] pages. With an early facsimile of the frontispiece inserted. Woodcut headpieces and initials throughout. Two title-pages and page-counts. Bound in later (nineteenth-century) full green pebbled morocco, boards ruled and paneled in blind with gilt central urn motif, spine ruled and lettered in gilt in compartments, four raised bands, gilt board edges, gilt morocco doublures, marbled free endleaves. Very minor rubbing to binding, some occasional minor soiling in text, gutter facing title-page cracking, text trimmed a bit close at top, affecting a few page numbers, some worming to first twenty-three pages (generally minor). Faint ink notations on the blank recto of the last page. Bound without the preliminary blank. With the bookplate of Thomas Edward Watson on the front free endpaper. A fine copy.

    Except for the poems, "On Shakespeare," "Comus," and "Lycidas," the works in this volume make their first appearance in print. This volume contains nearly all of Milton's work up to that time. Pforzheimer 722. Shawcross 70.
