Rare 1837 edition. 8vo. Two volumes in one; 370pp. and 230pp. respectively. Original polished tree calf binding with gilt decoration and lettering on spine. Half-title frontispiece; two plates and two maps. Marbled page edges. Some wear to board edges and corners, and along spine. Some rubbing of gilt at spine, but most is intact. Initial few pages bear a water stain at the upper outer corner; minor age toning throughout. Generally fine.

    This is the first edition of this work that contains Texas material; pages 213-370 offer a Geographical And Historical View of Texas With A Detailed Account Of The Texian Revolution And War. The volume includes recent details on the Texas Revolution of 1836 as well as material that extends into 1837. Additional reports include military movements, battles, and political/diplomatic as associated with the Revolution. Several chapters focus on the recent Central and South American revolutions against Spain; others offer a detailed history of Mexico. Frontis plate features the Battle of San Jacinto and the half-title bears a vignette of Battle of Alamo; also contains two engraved portraits of Santa Anna and Samuel Houston. The colorful maps of Mexico and Texas and of South America are both intact. The Mexico and Texas map bears a significant tear where it is affixed at the hinge; the South America map bears a long tear and a damaged fold, both of which have been professionally repaired.
