Publisher's blue cloth, spine stamped in gilt; original printed dust jacket. Foot of spine just pushed, head and foot of spine lightly sunned. Cream endpapers; small penciled bookseller's notation to the front free endpaper recto. Internally clean and tight, all edges trimmed; offsetting to pages 94-95, text block unevenly toned, a few corners creased. Dust jacket unclipped (18/-); small abrasion to the front panel at the fold of the front flap. Near fine or better.

A highly acclaimed book and an international best seller, it serves as the source material for a 1965 film adaptation by the same name. The film was directed by Martin Ritt and starred Richard Burton, Claire Bloom, and Oskar Werner.
