    Description

John Knowles. A Separate Peace. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1960. First edition, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To George - / With all best / thoughts- / John Knowles / February 8, 1974." Octavo. [vi], 1-186 pages. Publisher's light blue cloth, front board and spine lettered in dark blue; in the original first issue dust jacket. Spine and board edges sunned; light rubbing to binding. Some mild soiling to front endleaves (not affecting inscription); some offsetting to rear endleaves. Jacket spine slightly sunned; some mild edgewear and a few small chips and short tears; some thumbsoiling to the rear flap; the front flap is clipped by the publisher at the lower corner, but the price is present near the upper corner. Still, near fine. The first issue jacket was suppressed at the request of the author, who didn't like the artwork.
