    John James Audubon. Turkey Buzzard. Cathartes Atratus. Male 1. Young 2. No. 31. Plate CLI. Drawn from Nature by J. J. Audubon. London: Engraved, Printed and Coloured by R. Havell, 1832. Original hand-colored etched plate from the 1827-1838 double-elephant folio edition of John James Audubon's The Birds of America. Approximate plate size: 38.75 x 25.75 inches. Very minor wrinkling and marginal soiling (barely visible) to plate. Some toning, creasing to margins, one margin worn from where removed from book, some tape on verso at top from having been mounted at one time. Still, a fine plate. From the estate of Scott and Stuart Gentling.

    More Information:

    A fine image of two Turkey Buzzards on tree branches from the greatest illustrated natural history work to be produced in America during the nineteenth century. This plate was taken after Audubon's original life-size watercolor drawing. This plate has not been examined out of the frame. (It is matted, framed and glazed.)
