    First edition. Two folio volumes. Xxxi, plus plates 1-223 in Volume I; plates 224-431 in Volume II along with Chronology, Appendix and Index. Profusely illustrated with color reproductions of Audubon's original paintings, which were used to produce the magnificent engraved plates in their published form as The Birds of America. Many plates are oversized and on folded sheets.

    Publisher's brown buckram, lettered and ruled in gilt within green boxes on the front covers and spines. Marbled endpapers. A fine copy in the publisher's matching marbled-paper over board slipcase with a ribbon pull and a mounted paper label lettered in gilt.
