    John James Audubon. The Birds of America. From Drawings Made in the United States and Their Territories. New York: Roe Lockwood and Son, 1861. Fifth octavo edition. Seven octavo volumes (10.25 x 6.625 inches; 260 x 170 mm.). 246, [2, blank]; 199, [3, blank]; 233, [3, blank]; 321, [3, blank]; 346, [4, blank]; 456, [4, blank]; 372, [4, blank]. Complete with 500 hand-colored lithographed plates after Audubon, printed by J.T. Bowen. Half titles present. Wood-engraved anatomical illustrations within the text. With original tissue guards. Publisher's brown morocco with five raised bands, lettered in gilt and decorated and ruled in gilt; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers. Spines dulled; edges rubbed; several nicks at spine; some hinges cracked and joints worn; boards of two volumes reattached using Japanese tissue, upper edge of repair separating. Gift inscription at front free endpaper of each volume; scattered spots of foxing. Very good. An attractive set of this important work. Sabin 2365.
