Two volumes; folio (15.625 x 10.125 inches; 399 x 257 mm.). [2, title leaf], [4, dedication], [4, preface], xvi, [4, contents], 984; [2, title leaf], [2, preface], [6, contents], 1056, [21, index], [1, illustrations] pages. Illustrated with sixty-one engravings, twenty-two of which are maps (most folding), including an early issue of the first English map of Australia, first included in the second edition of this work. Contemporary speckled calf boards, sympathetically rebacked to style, spine in eight compartments, raised bands, ruled in gilt with leather title labels. Boards rubbed, with surface scratches, light soiling and a few small splashes; edges worn, particularly at corners. Faint offsetting to endpapers and preliminary and terminal leaves; faint, light foxing throughout; occasional marginal creasing. Some light edgewear to plates, particularly folding maps. Overall, very good, with a nice, clean interior. ESTC T145685.
