Artists' edition, limited to 750 copies, of which this is number 625, original one-page autograph letter, signed, by Whittier inlaid into first volume. Nine octavo volumes. Frontispieces and several additional illustrated plates inserted throughout, with captioned tissue guards. Contemporary vivid blue levant morocco, spine lettered in gilt, five raised bands, board edges gilt; top edges gilt others untrimmed; elaborate gilt turn-ins and red morocco doublures, watered silk endpapers. Backstrips only faintly dulled, trace minor rubbing, occasional bumped corner. Near fine. Seven volumes containing the prose and poetry of Whittier with the two volume supplement The Life and Letters of... by Pickard with matching limitation number.
