    De Bry's Very Rare Book About the Life of Mohammed the Prophet and the Early History of Islam, and the Prediction of the Fall of the Ottoman Empire by Leo the Wise

Small quarto. Approximately 7.75 x 5.75 inches. [viii], 96, [6, Index Memorabilium] pages. With blank leaf H2 (sometimes lacking). Complete with engraved title-page, ten large intertextual engravings and sixteen smaller intertextual engravings throughout. Near contemporary full brown calf, spine elaborately tooled in gilt, light brown gilt morocco lettering label, gilt board edges, marbled endleaves. Some wear to joints, a few small wormholes to joints, hinges starting, four text leaves with lower corners restored, and two leaves of the Index with repair and restoration near the bottom (with some minor loss). Ink numbers stamped to verso of front free endpaper, previous owner's signature at the bottom of the title-page, possibly that of German theologian and author, Johannes Piscator (1546-1625) ("Ex libris Joh. Piscatoris."). A few inoffensive ink markings and notations. Two small inkstamps on verso of title-page. Still, a near fine copy. An edition in German was published in the same year. Atabey 331.
