Jacques de Gheyn II (1565-1629). Large Engraved Print "Preparations for a Witch's Sabbath", Circa 1610.

    More Information:

Dutch. 17.25 x 25.75 inches, mounted on linen. Published by Nicolaes de Clerck, circa 1610. Engraving attributed to Andries Stock after a work by Jacques de Gheyn II. Minor tears and chipping along the edges with some loss at the lower right corner. Still, the illustration presents itself well and would be well-served by professional conservation.

This impressive work features grotesque scenes of witches conjuring skies of blood, a bursting volcano, dragons, winged lizards, witches on brooms, and other gruesome and demonic figures. De Gheyn II was an engraver and painter who often worked for Dutch royalty. Along with Goltzius (his instructor), he created some of Dutch arts earliest nudes and excelled in the depiction of natural objects and fanciful drawings and engravings of witches and demonic figures. From the Krown & Spellman Collection.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
