Jack Vance. First, Second, and Third Drafts of The Insufferable Red-Headed Daughter of Commander Tynnott O.T.E., All Signed.

John Holbrook Vance, writing most of his career under Jack Vance, is a prolific author of fantasy and science fiction and the winner of nearly every award given to authors in these writing fields - two Hugo awards, two Nebula awards, a Jupiter, the World Fantasy Award, and an Edgar.

It is a rare thing to come across a completely handwritten first draft by an important author, but that is exactly what we offer here. Written on quarto sheets that have been folded in half horizontally, the first draft of The Insufferable Red-Headed Daughter of Commander Tynnott O.T.E. (also known as Assault on a City) is necessarily messy and confusing; a tangle of added in and scribbled out bits in a variety of ink colors and pen types. Boldly signed by Vance on the initial page. Miraculously transcribed from Vance's handwritten draft, we also offer the second draft of the story, this one typed but just as messy and confusing with endless edits, deletions and notations in various ink colors. The second version has also been signed by Vance on the first page. Vance finally produced a third draft, typed but still containing numerous handwritten notations; also signed by the author on the first page. A terrific lot of Vance treasures! From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.
