Jack London. The Call of the Wild. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1903. First edition. Octavo (7.5 x 5.25 inches; 190 x 135 mm.). 231, [1, blank], [2, ads] pages, (note: front free endpaper and all inserted plates included in pagination); frontispiece and ten illustrated plates by Philip R. Goodwin and Charles Livingston Bull inserted throughout, textual pages with in-text illustrations on glossy paper inserted, full-page chapter-break decorations by Chas. Edw. Hooper. Publisher's ribbed dark green cloth, spine and front board lettered in gilt, ruled and stamped in black and painted in red and white; top edge gilt, others rough-trimmed; in original dust jacket. White paint rubbed, as often found; spine ends just slightly pushed; spine ends and corners very lightly worn; top corner of rear board softly bumped. One tiny splash to the top edge of the text block; two small areas of offsetting to the front endpapers, likely from labels since removed; a couple occurrences of very minor over-opening. Dust jacket crown chipped with minor paper loss, reinforced with just a hint of restoration on the verso; rear spine fold splitting at the bottom half, repaired on verso causing some minor discoloration; minor nicks to the fold edges; light offsetting from red and white paint on verso. A near fine copy in a skillfully sophisticated dust jacket that presents quite nicely. Housed in a custom slipcase. Publisher's prospectus laid in. BAL 11876.
