Illustrated with a map of the Shire printed in red and black on page [25] and a large folding map of Middle-Earth, printed in black and red, mounted to rear pastedown and three text illustrations after Tolkien. Publisher's blue cloth lettered in gilt; original first impression illustrated dust jacket by Walter Lorraine, with the "d" in "Frodo" on the tenth line of the back-flap damaged and the photograph of Tolkien on the back panel trimmed straight along the bottom. Minor edgewear, head and foot of spine just pushed. Cream endpapers; minor soiling. Internally clean and tight, all edges trimmed, top edge stained yellow; text block edges with minor wear and soiling, small dampstaining to tail edges but not extending into text block. Dust jacket without price as issued; spine and edges sunned, chipping to head and foot of spine and corners with minor losses, small open tear to top edge of back panel, somewhat rubbed. Near fine book with very good dust jacket.

Internally clean and tight, all edges trimmed, top edge stained yellow; top edge somewhat faded, text block edges with minor wear and soiling. Dust jacket unclipped ($5.00); spine and edges sunned, chipping to head and foot of spine and corners with minor losses, small dampstain to the bottom edge of the back panel, somewhat rubbed. Near fine book with very good dust jacket.

Illustrated with a large folding map of Rohan, Gondor, and Mordor, printed in black and red, mounted to rear pastedown. Publisher's blue cloth lettered in gilt; original first impression illustrated dust jacket by Walter Lorraine. Minor edgewear, head and foot of spine just pushed. Cream endpapers; minor soiling. Internally clean and tight, all edges trimmed, top edge stained yellow; text block edges with minor wear and soiling. Dust jacket unclipped ($5.00; the dollar sign with two upright lines and the "5" noticeably larger and bolder than the remaining text); edges toned, chipping to head and foot of spine and corners with minor losses, somewhat rubbed. Near fine book with near fine dust jacket.
