Publisher's uniform red cloth, spines lettered and stamped in gilt; top edges stained red. In restored original dust jackets, Return of the King in second state with reviewer blurbs for the first two titles on the rear flap. Spines gently leaning; board edges rubbed with a touch of minor wear; Fellowship of the Ring upper corners softly bumped; Return of the King boards slightly bowed. Page edges lightly foxed; occasional minor over-opening; ownership signature in Fellowship of the Ring with light offsetting to endpapers and rear hinge just starting; The Two Towers over-opened at pages 64-65 and pages 144-145, causing a couple sprung gatherings, with light foxing on preliminary and terminal leaves. Return of the King topstain faded, crease along upper edge of page 415/416. Dust jacket spine panels dulled; edges just a bit worn; occasional rubbing with trace wear from handling; light creasing; expert restoration to extremities of each jacket; Return of the King price-clipped. Still an attractive very good set with just a hint of restoration. Hammond and Anderson A5 i, ii, iii. From a Private Collection in St. Charles, IL.
