    J. R. R. Tolkien. The Hobbit. Or, There and Back Again. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co., no date [circa 1963]. Second American edition, presumed 15-17th impression. Signed by the author to the half-title. Lacking color frontispiece or red coloring to maps; with the original description of the revised edition beginning with "In this reprint several minor inaccuracies..." on page [10]; The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, Farmer Giles of Ham, and [The] Lord of the Rings advertised to the half-title page verso; advertisement for LOTR printed 42 mm below the final line of text and with "about" misprint.

Octavo (8.3 x 5.5 inches; 210 x 140 mm). 315 pages. Publisher's pastel green cloth stamped in dark blue; illustrated dust jacket. Corners bumped and rubbed, head and foot of spine pushed and somewhat worn, lower edge of boards toned. White endpapers illustrated with Tolkien's map illustrations in black; ink ownership to front free endpaper recto, bookplate to front blank recto. Internally clean, all edges trimmed; somewhat shaken, text block edges with minor wear and soiling. Dust jacket unclipped ($3.95, printed to lower corner of front flap); heavy edgewear, irregular open tearing to head and foot of spine and corners with losses, 4.5-inch tear to front panel and closed with cellotape, spine sunned, spine and edges heavily reinforced with cellotape to recto and verso, small stain over image of Smaug from removed sticker to rear panel. Very good book with fair dust jacket.

As noted by Frisby (2009), Houghton Mifflin enlarged the book to 21 x 14 cm, starting with the 15th impression. Clues suggest that these later impressions were filmset from the 14th impression but were not identified individually in the text until the 18th impression, so there does not appear to be a way to distinguished these impressions (Frisby additionally notes this may not actually be three separate impressions).

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
