    J. Marvin Hunter [editor]. The Trail Drivers of Texas. Interesting sketches of Early Cowboys and their Experiences on the Range and on the Trail during the Days that tried Men's Souls - True Narratives related by Real Cow Punchers and Men who Fathered the Cattle Industry in Texas. [San Antonio: Jackson Printing Co, 1920-1923.] First edition. Two 8vo volumes. 498; 496 pp. Illustrated with photographs. Index. Rebound in dark brown three-quarter calf. Raised bands. Gilt lettering to spine. Decorative endpapers. Several pages have tears which have been repaired with tape. Bookplates to each volume on front free endpapers. The binder has placed the name of G. W. Saunders on the spine (the publisher, not the editor). Very good.

    G. W. Saunders, president of the Old Trail Drivers' Association, commissioned this work. He requested from his membership of old trail drivers and cowboys to submit their reminiscences and adventures. Under the editing of Hunter, this work is the result. Over three hundred sketches are included, covering incidences on trail drives through Texas, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, the Dakotas, and Wyoming. Ramon Adams calls this set "perhaps the most important single contribution to the history of cattle driving on the western trails."
