    Description

    J. Evetts Haley. The Heraldry of the Range. Some Southwestern Brands. Canyon [Texas]: Panhandle Plains Historical Society (Carl Hertzog), 1949. First edition. Inscribed by the author on the title page. 4to. [1-4], 5-35 pages. Illustrated by H. D. Bugbee. Original terracotta cloth over boards with gilt vignette and titles printed on the front board. A very nice copy, about fine in a near fine illustrated dust wrapper.

Upon its release, writer Paul Crume wrote in the Dallas Morning News "The Heraldry of the Range doesn't properly belong to the body of his [Haley] work. It is a bookmaker's item, really, done in sepia and black by the incomparable Carl Hertzog of El Paso, and the growing number of collectors who admire Hertzog's work will probably seek it out."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
