Ian Fleming. On Her Majesty's Secret Service. London: Jonathan Cape, [1963]. First edition, first impression, binding A. Presentation copy, signed and inscribed by the author, likely to Sarah Dugdale, one of the author's presumed mistresses, "To / Sarah / Who doesn't deserve / it! / x / Ian." Octavo. 288 pages. Publisher's pictorial dark brown Excelin cloth (Type C) stamped in white, spine stamped boldly in silver; original illustrated dust jacket by Richard Chopping. Head and foot of spine just pushed. White endpapers; penciled bookseller notations to both pastedowns. Internally clean and tight, all edges trimmed; minor text block edgewear. Dust jacket with publisher's decorative clip and priced at 16s; minor edgewear, minor foxing and soiling to the back panel. Housed in custom blue cloth clamshell case, navy morocco spine label stamped in gilt. Near fine.

Source material for the 1969 film, the sixth in the James Bond series by Eon Productions, directed by Peter R. Hunt and starring George Lazenby in his first and only adventure as Bond. A box office success despite a lukewarm critical reception; retrospective reviews in recent years widely regard it as one of the most faithful Bond film adaptations and one of the few where Bond is relatable in his vulnerability.

    Gilbert A11a (1.1), binding A.
