Three volumes, large octavo (9.25 x 6.25 inches; 233 x 160 mm.). xxiii, [1, blank], 231, [1, blank]; xxxiv, 277, [1, printer's note]; xvi, 247 [248] pages (note: pages i and ii in volume two are blank; appendix in volume three on glossy coated paper); photographic frontispieces and numerous plates by Harry Burton inserted throughout. Publisher's yellowish-brown cloth, spine and front board lettered in gilt, beetle devices stamped in gilt on a black background on the front boards; in original dust jackets. Spines leaning; spine ends and corners worn, some corners softly bumped. Page edges lightly foxed; some leaves a little tanned but still quite supple; occasional mild over-opening. Dust jackets tattered and torn with extensive tape repairs, causing some discoloration. Very good in good dust jackets. From a Private Collection in St. Charles, IL.
