Ex-libris Donald Wandrei, co-founder of Arkham House and contributor to the collection, signed to the front pastedown and with his bookplate laid in. Large 16mo. 525, [1, blank] pages. Publisher's black cloth stamped in green; original illustrated dust jacket. Minor edgewear, head and foot of spine just pushed. Green endpapers; front pastedown somewhat creased. Internally clean and tight, top edge trimmed and stained green, other edges rough trimmed; top edge somewhat faded, minor text block edgewear. Dust jacket unclipped ($2.50); minor edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine and corners with some losses, spine sunned, approximately 20 mm open tear to the back panel at rear flap fold, somewhat rubbed. Near fine book with very good dust jacket.

    This anthology notably marks the first book appearance of William Faulkner's, "A Rose for Emily" and Lovecraft's, "The Music of Eric Zann," alongside a number of other famous names in supernatural and horror fiction, including but not limited to, S. Fowler Wright, Frank Belknap Long Jr., Donald Wandrei, Peter Fleming, and Hammett himself.
